“Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.” – Abraham Lincoln

Today we celebrate those who have lived lives of sacrifice, honor and duty in service to us and to our country.

I have the greatest respect for these men and women who give so much in order that we may live in freedom and safety. Around the world we hear of unrest, conflict and war. So many lives are destroyed because nobody was there to protect.

We have been blessed to live in this country, filled with such honorable men and women, those who sacrifice now and those who have given so much throughout the years. The land of freedom and prosperity has been enabled by the protective hand of those who have fought in the cause of truth.

Thucydides understood this, while also understanding the clarity with which these brave warriors see their mission, “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.”

May each of us do our sacred duty and always show honor to those who, while seeing the path before them, choose to go forward in service to us nonetheless.
